By: Ashleigh & Dr. Jones
For those that have watched the movie Office Space, you will know the term "Case of the Mondays." Our office experienced this on January 13th. I overslept and was about 30 minutes late to work. Dr. Jones' car keys went missing thanks to a certain 3 year old in her house and had to use the spare set. (by the way, they were found late that night under her pillow because apparently that's where 3 year olds hide keys.) AND we experienced a computer problem that has caused us quite the set-back! The brand new computer server that we installed in early November 2013 went from bad to worse to complete break down. As we hurried to get a combination of IT experts to resolve the issue as fast as possible, we learned that not only did one back-up fail, but our second back-up failed, too. At this point I would like to confirm that our computer was NOT hacked. No patient information was taken from an outside source or compromised in any way. We do not know why the failure occurred, but it was the motherboard of the main computer that simply stopped working. As you can imagine, that has caused a grand array of headaches and extra work and confusion. So, we apologize for any confusion or inconvenience that this has caused any of you! BUT...it's now two Mondays later...and we have learned a few new things, and been reminded of some very important things: 1. You always need one (or two, or three) more back-ups than you think. 2. Dr. Jones does NOT understand geek speak (i.e. computer related terminology) 3. Keep it all in perspective - there are much worse things than computer crashes 4. You all are the best patients! Now, let me go into some detail on #4. Once we realized that this happened (and cried a little and said some choice words under our breath and fantasized about throwing our broken hard drive into a field and smashing it to bits with baseball bats in slow motion while listening to a gangster rap theme song...oh wait...that was Office Space again) - we sent an email out everyone letting you all know about our computer issues. The phone calls and email replies that followed were a reminder that you guys are simply the best. We immediately had a huge influx of responses to help us fill in our missing data. But we also had people sharing their funny computer break down stories and making us laugh and giving us encouraging words and just being plain old understanding. So, from the bottom of our broken hard drive, we thank you. Hey, computers are great....until they're not. We shall overcome. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. And lastly..."Never trust a computer you can't throw out a window" -Steve Wozniak Happy Monday!!
