Crowns
A crown can help strengthen a tooth that has become weak over time due to a large, failing filling. They are also used to attach bridges, or cover a tooth that has become discolored or is badly shaped. If you need root canal therapy, a crown is placed after to protect the tooth and canals from bacterial contamination.
The fabrication of crowns take at least two appointments. The first appointment is called the Crown Prep. Dr. Jones prepares the tooth, or teeth, and impressions are taken that will be sent to the lab. It takes two weeks for a custom crown to be fabricated. A temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth during this time. The second appointment is called the Crown Seat. It is a shorter appointment and less invasive than the initial crown appointment.

Types of Crowns:
Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM):
This type of crown has a porcelain surface with a metal substructure.
Full Porcelain:
This type of crown is 100% porcelain and is a great, natural-looking option for anterior (front) teeth.
e.max:
This type of crown is all-ceramic and is strong and durable.
BruxZir:
"More brawn than beauty" This crown is strong and a great choice for posterior (back) teeth without the dark margin that you sometimes see with PFM crowns.
Gold:
Made completely gold, this is a long-lasting crown. At one time they were the more economic option, but with the price of gold increasing, it is about the same as a PFM Crown.
*Dr. Jones will discuss your treatment options and help you choose the crown that is best for your tooth.
