Every so often, we have a new patient that calls or comes in and tells us, "I hate the dentist," before we get them in the chair. Ouch! However, we know that this really means, "I've had a really bad experience in my past. Please don't be like that." When we hear the "I hate the dentist" comment, we take it as an opportunity to really listen to what your dental fears are. After you have time to talk with Dr. Jones, the staff and see how our office is, we hope that "I hate the dentist" turns into "I really like my dentist." Dental fear is a very common thing. Unfortunately, bad situations happen...and those memories stick out much more than good ones. If you have dental fear or anxiety, we really want to know so that we can make you more comfortable. The good memories: If you have read our About Us page, you will know that Dr. Jones and I (Ashleigh) are sisters. Our uncle is a dentist in northern Michigan. He lives in an old Victorian style home, and the first floor was his dental office. We have fond memories of taking the backstairs down to the office to have him clean and check our teeth. In fact, you can see pictures of Dr. Jones' first dental visit in our waiting room! I remember how fun it was to look through and find something fun in the treasure chest. We were lucky to have good experiences from the start. And this is what we try to achieve with all of our patients each day, especially our young patients. We welcome the "I hate the dentist" crowd. Give us a chance to turn you into a "I like MY dentist" patient.

By: Ashleigh (Office Manager) Last week, Dr. Jones and the team (sadly, minus Courtney) attended an absolutely amazing seminar. The speaker, Kirk Behrendt, is a dental practice coach (ACT Dental Coaching), speaker and author. Dr. Jones is part of a couple area study clubs and our team is sometimes fortunate to be invited to speaking events. Dr. Jones has followed Kirk for a couple years and our office watches his weekly blog videos (which are hilarious, yet very informative). We were excited to see him in person! Honestly, this was the very best speaker to which I've had the pleasure to listen. There was a LOT of laughing, some tears, and more importantly a lot of great information. Real information that you are energized to start using. Not only in work, but in life. Thank you to the Great Plains Study Club for opening this event to staff members. Thank you for Dr. Jones for allowing the office to close so that we could all attend. We had a great time. We are energized this morning and ready to be better for ourselves, our families, our co-workers and our patients. By: Ashleigh (Office Manager)
A couple weeks ago, I attended a webinar presented by our communication support company, Demandforce. They are the ones that send the text and email reminders to leave your golf game to get to your dental cleaning on time. Demandforce has various webinars daily, but this was a special one because there was an opportunity to win an iPad Mini! Well, being the person that loves to get our office new stuff for free (MP4 player, tool kit, etc.), I joined in. I was also trying to figure out how we would incorporate Twitter into our dental practice. The only thing that I knew about Twitter is 1. It existed, 2. Celebrities seem LOVE it, and 3. It started the annoying #hashtag phenomenon. Other than that, I often asked Dr. Jones...how do businesses actually use it? Surely, it is not meant for a dental practice. Neither of us could come up with an answer. How wrong I was. After listening for a while, I started nodding my head...yes, yes...we can do this! That makes so much sense! After the webinar (and returning patient messages), I logged into Twitter, and made an account for Dr. Jones' practice. I also needed to do this to try to win the iPad Mini. After selecting several people and businesses to follow, I wrote our first tweet. Then our second. Then our third the next day! By the fourth day, I forced Dr. Jones (still doubtful) to send a tweetpic of the new pillow her daughter Natalie pointed out at the store and is now at our office. Since then, she has tweeted a few more times! Sadly, I did not wind the iPad. However, I believe that we have stumbled upon a great new way to update our patients and potential new patients about our promotions, tips, and other information. The Kansas Dental Association has a twitter account, and some other well known dental related entities that we respect and follow. It is a great way for us to link to articles that we like and want to share with our patients. We have a binder in our waiting area, but sometimes you don't have enough time to read them. Shame on us to get you back in the chair at your appointed time :) Do I still find hashtags annoying? Not really. Now that I understand how they work, I do not mind them. We've even used them in some of our tweets. Just don't use them when we are actually having a conversation and you end your thought with #hashtag blah blah blah. |
